Fez

Steeped in over a thousand years of history, Fez is one of Morocco’s most spiritually rich and culturally vibrant cities. Often regarded as the intellectual and religious heart of the country, Fez (or Fès) is home to one of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world and an exceptionally preserved medieval medina. Walking through its narrow alleys feels like stepping back in time: the sounds of craftsmen at work, the scent of spices and leather, and the sight of ancient architecture blend into an unforgettable sensory journey. Founded in the 9th century by Idris II, Fez quickly became a center of Islamic scholarship, science, and trade. Today, it continues to draw visitors who seek authenticity, tradition, and spiritual depth. The city is divided into three parts—Fez el-Bali (the old medina), Fez el-Jdid (the newer medina), and the Ville Nouvelle (modern district)—each offering a unique experience. Revered for its mosques, madrasas, and spiritual ambiance, Fez is a sanctuary for those who want to immerse themselves in Morocco’s deep-rooted Islamic heritage and artistry.
